Georgina Food Pantry Food Drive May 19-21 at POP

Dear  Prince of Peace Families,

It is during moments of crisis and despair that as a community of faith, we come together to show kindness, care and solidarity. During this period of school and work closures, more families than ever before are in need of the Georgina Food Pantry’s services.

Last year, our Georgina Food Pantry provided food to more than 10,000 people, of which 34% were children.  140,000 pounds of food was distributed to families in need.

Unfortunately, the number of families requiring support during the pandemic are consistently increasing. Clients are no longer able to pick up food from the pantry and food baskets are being delivered to homes by volunteers.

As a response to this critical situation, school communities across the York Catholic District School Board are coming together to support our neighbours in need. Collection bins will be placed at the front doors of neighbouring schools and monitored by school cameras for safety purposes.

Families are encouraged to take a walk to their closest Georgina Catholic School and place a bag of food and/or personal hygiene items in the Food Bank Bins.

When:  Tuesday May 19th, Wednesday May 20th, and Thursday May 21st  2020

Time:  9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Neighbouring Schools Food Drive: St. Bernadette’s CES, St. Thomas Aquinas CES and Prince of Peace CES

(Bins will be placed outside the front doors of each school)

Please ensure that you maintain social distancing at all times to ensure your personal well being.

Kindly note that all bins will be held in a 5-day quarantine by the Georgina Food Bank prior to being handled by their volunteers.

Here is a list of the Pantry’s current high-priority needs:

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Cereals (<15g of sugar per serving)
  • Rice – brown, basmati, etc.
  • Canned fish
  • Peanut butter
  • Canned vegetables

Thank you all for your continued support and generosity as we are all truly in this together!
