As a Community of Faith during Advent, the season of Hope, we come together to show kindness, care and solidarity. This year we are not “digging in” to our usual holiday traditions but instead are encouraging our students to “reach out” to those in need.
As a response to this critical demand, we again would like to support our neighbours in need. Collection bins will be placed inside the front doors of our school.
Students are encouraged to drop a bag of food and/or personal hygiene items in the Food Bank Bins at the start of the school day. The food packages will go into quarantine for a number of days before they will be delivered to the food bank.
When: Monday, December 7th to Friday, December 11th, 2020.
Time: 8:15 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.
How: Students may place any non-perishable foods in the bins at the front entrance of the school for the day, or place cheque donations in a labelled envelope into the slot bin on the table inside the first set of doors (they may come to the front entrance to drop off the items and then return back to their usual school entrances at the back of the school) – NO food is to be brought through the school into the classrooms. The boxes will be monitored all day and food will be brought in for storage/quarantine shortly after it is dropped off.
Here is a list of the Pantry’s current high-priority needs:
- Fresh fruits and vegetables
- Cereals (<15g of sugar per serving)
- Rice – brown, basmati, etc.
- Canned fish
- Peanut butter
- Canned vegetables
- Toiletries
- Monetary Donations (cheques payable to Georgina Food Pantry, or donate directly through their website)
Our staff is always appreciative of the gifts you generously provide to them this time of year. However, due to the COVID-19 restrictions about bringing outside items into the school, as well as the dire needs of the Food Bank, we would ask you to perhaps consider donating food items or monetary donations in their name to the Georgina Food Pantry this year. Thank you all for your continued support and generosity as we prepare our hearts this season with peace, love, joy, and, importantly, hope!
