Tuesday March 21st, is World Down Syndrome Day! This day is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. The date for World Down Syndrome Day is important because it is the 21st day of the 3rd month, which was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.
At Prince of Peace, we are asking our students and staff to wear their funkiest, most colourful, mismatched socks on Tuesday to get people talking. The idea is to start the conversation. So when people ask anyone here about about their funky socks they can tell them, “I’m wearing them to raise awareness of Down syndrome”. Then through a variety of activities and videos our students will be participating in, they can tell people about all the amazing abilities of people with Down Syndrome, and help raise awareness.
Let’s ROCK OUR SOCKS on Tuesday March 21st!
